Concept

Our group, comprised of Rebecca Bledstein, Trey Bernard, and myself was tasked with creating a Readymech toy line. We developed three individual characters under the concept of a Circus Garden theme. Our goal was to design a cohesive character line that conveyed a sense of whimsy and mystery.

Initial Sketches

These were the initial sketches that I showed to my group. I was exploring a range of ideas and themes that could create three unique characters. I also kept in mind that these would be designed for a younger generation so I picked characters that looked fun or silly. We ended up creating a line of circus-themed characters.

Inpiration & Color Exploration

We took inspiration from Pat McGrath’s viral glass skin makeup as well as porcelain clown masks. Our concept was to have each character wear a sort of mask on top that leaned into the circus theme. As for the colors we chose a very spring palette with some soft pastels and a few vibrant colors.

Instruction Sheet

For my initial instructions layout, I was trying to figure out the best way to utilize the space of our paper. The first iteration was me figuring out the die-cut design and how to configure the shapes on an 8.5 x 11 paper. The second iteration is me starting to stylize it using our circus theme.  However, it was too distracting as an informational sheet.
