Concept
We created a promotional brochure for the Graphic Design concentration within Cal Poly’s Department of Art and Design. My goal was to convey a fun and inviting brochure for prospective students by using characters/mascots to create interest and a layout that kept the eye flowing.
Initial Sketches
For my layout sketches, I was trying to figure out how to incorporate my characters with the text as well as trying to establish a clear reading hierarchy, keeping in mind that the information would be on 3 panels. For my characters, I wanted to create a visual representation of the 3 concentrations in the Art and Design Department, almost like little kids dressing up in these prop costumes.Color Exploration
For my color studies, I kept in mind I wanted to have a green and yellow color scheme to relate to the Cal Poly school colors. I also picked colors that had some softer or natural tone to them since I wanted the brochure to feel very approachable and casual. I also chose to use a grotesque San serif font for this brochure because it gives a clean yet playful tone with a slight line weight variation.
